Azadlyg party not to take part in presidential elections in Azerbaijan

12 August 2008 [17:09] - TODAY.AZ
The Azadlyg party, functioning in Azerbaijan, decided not to take part in the presidential elections with its candidate, said party chairman Ahmed Oruj.
He said the party made the decision due to the complicated situation in the country.

"Today most parties have rejected participation in this process. Earlier we had an intention to take part in the elections, due to which the party held an active work. Yet the opposition was not able to attain the goals set.

The Azadlyg party also does not intend to support any candidacy. This issue is not on the agenda. Today, everyone knows who will be the president of the country". said he.

As for party's possible continuation of operation in a new format of the coalition, which is currently under discussion, Oruj said:

"The opposition leaders were not able to agree on cooperation and creation of a single coalition for years. I think an attempt to create a new coalition will not be successful.

It is not ruled out that the format of cooperation of the parties in the framework of the Center of Democratic Elections will also be reviewed".
