Ali Ahmedov: "The calls to boycott presidential elections in Azerbaijan will result in non-participation of just several parties"

21 July 2008 [14:54] - TODAY.AZ
It is incorrect to speak of the calls of some opposition parties to boycott presidential elections in Azerbaijan, as of the common boycott, for the country has no powers, which could boycott elections, said deputy chairman and executive secretary of the Yeni Azerbaijan party Ali Ahmedov.

He considers that this may only imply non-participation of several parties at the upcoming presidential elections.

"The urges of boycotting elections may result only in the non-participation of several parties in the presidential elections. The unwillingness of a definite party to attend elections can be connected either with the unpreparedness of the party for elections or awareness that they will not be supported by anyone. They openly assume this without participation in the elections", said he.

Ahmedov noted that the political party, by the sole participating in the elections, may influence the political processes. He considers that the parties, which will not take part in the elections will stay out of the ongoing process and will be forgotten by the voters at the next elections.
