APA vs. ANS

16 July 2008 [16:13] - TODAY.AZ
Azeri Press Agency has repeatedly applied to some media structures in connection with plagiarism.

One of the first places was always occupied by organizations, joining the ANS group of companies (ANS TV and ANS PRESS) in connection with which we have held a monitoring to reveal plagiarism by the said structure in using APA's information through the past two months.

The monitoring was held only on some days of the month and revealed a disgracing picture. Thus, ANS company, calling on everyone to be objective, unbiased and attempting to teach everything the lessons of professionalism, has shown its "professionalism" on a high level. The "high plagiarism capacity" of the company officials is invaluable.

"Like in other spheres, there is plagiarism in journalism. In this connection, the Council of Press receives complaints from the news agencies. We consider it necessary to eliminate chaos in this sphere", said chairman of the Azerbaijan's Council of Press Aflatun Amashov, commenting on the issue of plagiarism.

He noted that newspapers steal information from each others and from news agencies. Amashov said the monitoring, held by the council revealed that the two thirds of the materials, published in the newspapers, belong to news agencies: "Newspapers have either forgotten the practice of news preparation or they find it difficult to collection information. Probably, due to the excess volume of information the newspapers leave out the most important part with the names of the information authors and write the names of their officials, which is a bright example of plagiarism".

Chairman of the Council of Press noted that the text of news agencies are often red in the TV programs without any reference: "This is one of the forms of plagiarism. We reveal these facts during the inspections, we hold".

Amashov said the council of press will soon hold an event in connection with plagiarism.

APA has presented several samples of plagiarism by ANS in using APA's information:

Accussations of plagiarism, addressed to ANS TV company and ANS-PRESS website are ridiculous, said editorial director of ANS-PRESS bews website Ayten Safarova.

She noted that ANS TV channel, particularly, the news website uses information of its news-makers, which is further clarified in the official structures.

"We were surprised with the material, posted on APA website. After it, our officials revealed a number of materials, which were first posted on our website and then on APA's website with certain changes and with an interval of 10-15 minutes", said Safarova.

She considers that APA has chosen the tactics "attack is the best protection".

Moreover, she drew attention to the fact that several references were given to the news, worked on the basis of press-releases, spread by official structures, in APA's information, accusing ANS of plagiarism. Moreover, she said common events, attended by all journalists, were pointed there.
