Baku Appellate Court declines appeal of Azerbaijan's former economic development minister Farhad Aliyev

The Baku Appellate Court, presided by judge Mirpasha Huseynov, has finished the court hearing on the appeal of former Economic Development Minister of Azerbaijan Farhad Aliyev, former president of Azpetrol group of companies Rafik Aliyev and others, reports the press service for the Appellate Court.

The appeal states the need to pass a verdict of not guilty towards the imprisoned people.

Thus, the Appellate Court considered Farhad Aliyev's claim unfounded, uphelding the decision of the Court of Grave Crime.

It should be noted that former minister Farhad Aliyev was sentenced to 10 years with property confiscation without the right to occupy leading positions within 5 years after serving the term. His brother Rafik Aliyev was also sentenced to 9 years with the same provisions.

Farhad Aliyev was charged under articles 179.3.1, 179.3.2 (misappropriation and embezzlement), 192.1, 192.2 (illegal entrepreneurship), 206.4 (smuggle), 213.4 (tax evasion), 308.2 (abuse of powers), 311.3.1, 311.3, 311.3.3 (bribery) and 313 (forgery in public office) of the Criminal Code.

Brother of the former Minister and former chairman of the directors' board of Azpetrol company Rafik Aliyev was charged under article 179.3.1, 179.3.2, 188, 192.2.1, 192.2.2, 206.3.1, 206.4, 213.4, 259, 313.
