PACE president meets with representatives of Azerbaijan's political parties - UPDATED

PACE president Lluis Maria de Puig met with political parties, represented in the Azerbaijani parliament, said Ana Veten party chairman Fazail Aghamaly.

He said the meeting was constructive, discussing relations between PACE and Azerbaijan.

The meeting was opened by deputy chairman and executive secretary of Yeni Azerbaijan party Ali Ahmedov.

"PACE president voiced support to territorial integrity of Azerbaijan and will certainly support us in the framework of the planned visit to Armenia.

The meeting participants also noted that democratic reforms are held, basic human rights are observed, there are no political prisoners in Azerbaijan. As for reporters, it was announced that these people were not arrested by political motives", noted he.

Aghamaly also said the chairmen of different parties announced that they take into account all PACE requirements.

APA reports that PACE President has already visited Alley of Honors and Martyrs’ Alley.

Llu?s Maria de Puig will meet with Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizadeh, Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and speaker of parliament Ogtay Asadov.

PACE President is also expected to meet with members of the parliamentary delegation to PACE, representatives of different political organizations and NGOs, the diplomats accredited in Baku and media representatives. The meetings will focus on PACE-Azerbaijan relations, pre-election socio-political situation, state of media, resolution on Azerbaijan adopted during summer session of PACE.
