PACE has declined amendments of Armenian delegation to the report on Azerbaijan

25 June 2008 [09:16] - TODAY.AZ
PACE has declined the amendments of the Armenian delegation to the paragraph concerning Nagorno-Karabakh of the report on the state of democratic institutions in Azerbaijan, reports ArmInfo's correspondent in Strasbourg.
To recall, due to the efforts of the Azeri representatives, a provision according to which "the Assembly takes into account the United Nations General Assembly's resolution on the situation in occupied territories of Azerbaijan, and the resolution supports the internationally acknowledged borders of Azerbaijan and demands immediate withdrawal of Armenian troops from the occupied territories" was introduced to the draft document.

Armenian MPs, particularly, Armen Rustamyan expressed their negative attitude to fixing this provision in the document of such an authoritative organization as PACE. According to Rustamyan, this step of the Assembly may have a negative effect on the Karabakh peace process.
