Iran eases visa regime with Azerbaijan

11 February 2008 [13:54] - TODAY.AZ
“Iran eased visa regime between Azerbaijan and Iran”, APA reports with reference to Ambassador extraordinary and plenipotentiary of Iran to Azerbaijan Nasir Hamidi Zare.

He stated that Iranian government ratified the document on abolishment of visa regime between the two countries 12 years ago.

“Azerbaijan will adopt the document on abolishment of visa regime in expedient time,” he said.

The ambassador noted that though visa regime has not been abolished completely, Iran gives free visa for Azerbaijani citizens traveling from border districts and Nakhichevan. He added that Iran gives 6 month-visa or one year-visa to Azerbaijani citizens who visit Iran for trade or medical treatment.

“Blood test during visa procedure is also abolished,” he said. Mr. Nasir touched upon pentalateral talks on the legal status of the Caspian Sea carried out by littoral states.

“There are particular models for the distribution of closed seas like the Caspian Sea. The consensus should be achieved among five countries on the settlement of the issue.  Presidents of each of the five countries stated their positions on the legal status of the Caspian Sea at the Tehran summit. The talks on the legal status of the Caspian Sea will be solved positively soon.
