Kamil Salimov: "PKK threats to initiate terrorist acts in Azerbaijan will allow us to settle the task of releasing the occupied lands"

19 December 2007 [12:20] - TODAY.AZ
Azerbaijan must be prepared, if PKK initiates any hostilities, according to Kamil Salimov, doctor of law, professor, head of the chair of criminal law, and expert of combat with terrorism.
K.Salimov announced that the intention of the Kurdish Workers' Party to initiate hostilities in Azerbaijan, in case Turkish Armed Forces are deployed in Northern Iraq, lacks logic.

He said the fact that Azerbaijan is a strategic ally of Turkey can not serve as an argument for the Kurdish Workers’ Party.

He noted, however, that such actions of the Party would do a favor to Azerbaijan.

"Our hands are tied with commitments on the peaceful settlement of Nagorno Garabagh conflict. But if any foreign organization, which is not connected with Armenian separatists ethnically or in any other way, starts operating on the uncontrolled territory of Nagorno Garabagh, this will be a carte blanche for Azerbaijan to intensify military actions to eliminate the threat in accordance with the norms of international law".

He said Azerbaijan will have to evade making announcements or undertaking definite actions, as Armenia will not confirm the location of its troops in Garabagh.

"PKK has been recognized an international terrorism organization by the United States, Russia and Europe. Therefore, if location of PKK militants in Nagorno Garabagh is confirmed, we will have a right to carry out anti-terrorist operations in cooperation with Turkey and other countries", he added.
