Russian experts advise Azerbaijan not to hope for integration into EU

"South Caucasus is in the focus of regional powers and attracts global powers. But this attention should not be exaggerated. The priorities of the US and European Union are different," Irina Zvigelskaya, Vitali Naumkin and Sergey Luzyakin, representatives of Russian Academy of Sciences Oriental Studies Institute told the press conference in Baku.

The political scientists said that Russia wants to see Azerbaijan as the closest partner. They advised Azerbaijan not to hope for integration into the European Union.

"It is early to think of integration into European Union in the nearest millenniums. If Turkey can not integrated into European Union, South Caucasian countries should not hope for it soon," they said.

Touching upon the Nagorno Karabakh conflict the experts said Russia shares position of the US and France and wants stability in the South Caucasus. APA
