President visits Unknown Soldier Memorial in Cairo

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev visiting Egypt garlanded on Unknown Soldier Memorial in Cairo in Cairo yesterday.

People who became martyrs in the struggle for independence of the country and abolishment of protectorate of the United Kingdom on Egypt in 1922 were buried there. But though Egypt achieved independence, Great Britain continued on domination in economy.

Egypt was declared Republic as a result of revolution LED by "Free officers" organization led by Jamal Abdul Nasir in 1952. People who became martyrs during those developments were also buried here, APA reports.

Azerbaijani President also visited the tomb of former President of Egypt Anwar Sadat in Cairo and garlanded on it today.

The site was also chosen for the president's tomb after his assassination in October 1981.
