Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan based on mutual respect for interests, Andrey Kokoshin says

"Relations between Russia and Azerbaijan are good in principal, and they are based on mutual respect, mutual respect for interests", said Andrey Kokoshin, the Chairman of the Russia's State Duma Committee for CIS Affairs and Ties with Compatriots.

Kokoshin noted 'we deeply respect Azerbaijan's sovereignty, its culture and achievements.'

"There are many Azerbaijanis living in Russia, and they are mostly loyal and useful citizens for Russia, and those who remain Azerbaijani citizens also fit Russia's economic, social and cultural life," Andrey Kokoshin said.

On interparliamentary relations between Russia and Azerbaijan, he said they are also successfully developing.

Andrey Kokoshin recalled recent Duma hearings on energy and ecological security in the Caspian Sea, describing this issue as very important for both Russia and Azerbaijan.

"Azerbaijan's Vice Speaker Valeh Alasgarov attended the hearings, and we thank him for participation. He made good contribution to these parliamentary hearings," Kokoshin added.

On Azerbaijan's cooperation with NATO, he said 'Azerbaijan is pursuing wise policy with the North Atlantic Alliance, unlike other member-states of the Commonwealth, who are eager to join NATO.' AzerTAg
