PACE mission on cultural monuments to visit Azerbaijan and Armenia

19 February 2007 [23:04] - TODAY.AZ
The mission on cultural monuments of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) will visit the South Caucasus in May this year.

Edward O'Hara, General Rapporteur on Cultural Heritage of the PACE Committee on Culture, Science and Education told the APA that the mission could not visit the region in autumn last year because of the weather and they decided to visit the region in summer.

O'Hara said the members of the mission have not coordinated all the issues.
Commenting on erecting the monument devoted to Shusha's occupation in Yerevan, the rapporteur said they will not deal with this problem.

"My mission is engaged in historical-cultural monuments and their state, not in politics. I never make political statements, on the contrary I want to separate culture from politics," he said.

PACE mission will concern itself with the state of cultural monuments in Armenia and Azerbaijan (Nagorno Karabakh, Nakhchivan).
