Romanian official: "We consider Azerbaijan to be European country having great role in the security of region"

Romania President's last visit to Azerbaijan showed country's interest to the Black Sea region and also Azerbaijan's integration to the Euroatlantic structures, and political message has been sent on the partnership in Black Sea and Caspian Sea regions, said director of Strategic Researches Center on Defense and Security of I Karol National Defense University under Romania Defense Ministry, colonel Konstantin Moshtofley.

He told the APA Eastern Europe bureau that while settling the conflicts in Post Soviet region we should respect international law principles, especially inviolability of the territories and territorial integrity.

"Frozen conflicts are important issues for NATO, EU and at the same time for Russia. I do not believe that Moscow is interested in the continuation of the conflicts. That is why the settlement of the conflicts should be priority issue for international community, because European configuration and the security of the Europe, future of the world depend on it," he said.

The expert noted that, being the member of the NATO Romania supports Azerbaijan's integration to the Europe and Euroatlantic region and the alliance is ready to share experience with Baku.

According his view point, Bucharest can advice to overcome the problems and difficulties raised in the period of preparation to NATO membership.

"Everything depends on what sphere Azerbaijani government will ask to help and support. Romania considers Azerbaijan to be a European country that has a great role in the security of the region and continent," the colonel added.

Reminding that Romania is one of the five countries that are situated on the Konstansa-Triyest pipeline, he said that American and European big companies are the important players in Caspian region.

"All of these five countries could find both international support and financial sources," he said.

The director of the center thought that Azerbaijan has great importance for Romania. He considers that for more fruitful relations we should expand bilateral relations systematically and continuously, increase trade turnover and economic and scientific cooperation, to found legal basis for joint cooperation.

Konstantin Moshtofley said one of the main goals of Romania is support this country to integrate to Europe and Euroatlantic region, at the same time to stimulate the effective cooperation of the littoral countries.

"Romania invites South Caucasus countries, especially Azerbaijan to join its initiatives, firstly, its initiatives appearing from the inter-organization and sub-regional projects for governing the critic situations, at the same time cultural and inter-civilizations dialogue projects," he stated.

It should be noted that, I Karol National Defense University founded in 1889 is the sixth General Staff of Europe. Strategic Research Center on Defense and Security was founded in 2000.
