04 August 2006 [23:13] - TODAY.AZ
Residents of Nardaran district in Azerbaijan organized a demonstration in protest against Israeli military intervention in Lebanon.

Crowd of about 70 residents shouted slogans condemning Israel, US, European Union and several other states supporting Zionism and supporting Hezbollah and its leader Sheik Nasrallah.

The protesters burnt the flags of Israel and US in the end.
Local resident Haji Alikram Aliyev declared that the authorities, opposition and Caucasian Muslims Office head Haji Allahshukur Pashazadeh fear Jews.

"They do not fear God but Jews. We cannot keep silence in this case or else it will be betrayal," he said.

Alikram also said the forces aiming to provoke unrest in Nardaran have become active.

"Local elections were not held in Nardaran. We'll not consent to falsified elections this time."

Azerbaijan Islamic Party leader Haji Hajiaga Nuri said the rallies will be continued on 11 August.

"Azerbaijani parliament should follow the Turkish parliament and abolish the Israel-Azerbaijan friendship commission," the party leader said.

He also said they will stage a protest action outside the Israeli Embassy on 9 August, APA reports.
