President attends press conference on ECO summit

Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev held press conference dedicated to results of ECO summit.

As APA informs, President told at the conference that summit enabled to conduct bilateral negotiations and its result could be considered as successful.

Expressing his hope that tha discussion would contribute to intensification of general economic development in the region, President Ilham Aliyev stated that not only economic problems but also maintenance of peace and stability in the region was also in focus during the summit.

He said that peace and stability was main factor for development and issues concerning peace are the dominant one is the world.

Mr. Aliyev said that ECO-member states' wish about energy demand has been fullfiled.

"Implementation of regional projects-North-South and East-West corridor projects, Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway project contributes to common cooperation."

He also said that fight against terrorism, creation of joint financial structures were under discussion. Expressing his satisfaction with efficient talks with friend countries' representatives, Mr. Aliyev said that he believed that these discussed problems soon to be come to life.

Mr. Aliyev also stated that cooperation within ECO could contribute to settlement of Nagorno Karabakh conflict. He said that cooperation within not only ECO but also other international organizations was of both economic and political meaning and importance.

"I hope that Azerbaijan's stance will be backed at all upcoming forums."

President said that membership of Northern Cyprus Republic to ECO was not discussed at the summit.

He said that Azerbaijan planned to transport Azerbaijani oil to the world market via both Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) and Baku-Tbilisi-Arzurum pipelines.

As response to Kazakhstan journalist's "Did Azerbaijan offered Kazakhstan to use BTC because Azerbaijan is unable to fill it with oil?" Mr. Aliyev said: "We have not offered Kazakhstan anything. But Azerbaijan allows its partners to use the oil pipeline."

He said that Azerbaijan's oil export would reach 50mln tones by 2008 and this was enough to fill the pipeline.
