Seminar on Improvement of Election Procedure was held

Seminar on Improvement of Election Procedure was held for election organizing officers and authority members conducted by Council of Europe and IREX in International Press Center (IPC).

As APA reports, Ali Hasanov, President's Office Public and Political Bureau Officer, reported that 5 representatives of 10 district re-election committees participated in seminar.

Another seminar is going to be held in Ganja for 5 officials of district committees
May, 4. Correct understanding of duties stated in Election Code and implementation of obligations resulting from President's decrees dated May, 11 and October,25 last year is the main target.

Bureau Officer has stated that authorities have already shown their interest in fair elections and have also said "No" to any suspicious election results or violation of any kind: "Not we do need any election disregarding the will of the Azerbaijani nation. Polling must be run fairly and transparently. Azerbaijani government and its President are focused on this. Anyone rejecting this will be punished. Interference in the will of the nation and intervention on whom and how to vote violate the law."

Ilgar Ibrahimli, Council of Europe Information Office executive director in Azerbaijan, stated that his organization has its own enactment plans for November,6 parliamentary elections. Touching on this plan, he stated the activity of Council of Europe for fair re-elections.

Dan Blessington, IFES Azerbaijan Director, said that former irregularities should be analyzed over and firm steps should be taken to address. Approving of Azerbaijani authorities political will for transparent and fair re-elections, Mr. Blessington stated that some measures should be taken to hit the target. IPC Director Jafar Jafarov's information about issues under discussion in seminar, the event has followed up confidentially.
