Amnesty International: "CIA secret planes landed in Azerbaijan too"

07 April 2006 [08:46] - TODAY.AZ
The human rights organization Amnesty International released a new report on the US Central Intelligence Agency’s secret detentions in foreign countries.

As APA reports, the 20-page report contains testimonies of seven prisoners tortured in the CIA secret prisons. Most of the tortured prisoners are Arab in origin, one is Syria-born German citizen.

The reports also analyzed rendition flights which took prisoners to secret detention places. The CIA used planes of other countries to take prisoners. These planes landed in mainly tens of countries, especially in NATO member countries.

The report says that the secret planes made landings in Great Britain most of all. The list of these countries also includes Russia, Uzbekistan, Spain, Switzerland, Cyprus, Libya as well as Azerbaijan.

Secretary General of the Amnesty International, Iren Khan said that these secret flights were camouflaged under the name of commercial flights.

"The manipulations by commercial treaties prove that the United States is ready to do everything to conceal its disgraced actions. We call on all countries mentioned in the report to release the people who are illegally detained in secret prisons and prevent the CIA harshly violating international law norms," Ms.Khan emphasized.
