Azeri foreign ministry will study co-op between Greek, Nagorno-Karabakh telecommunications companies

According to Tagizade, at the moment the Foreign Ministry does not possess information on the establishment of cooperation between the Greek company Intrakom and Armenian mobile operator Vivacell, which operates in Nagorno-Karabakh, as the Turkish daily Millyet reported.

He did not regard the newspaper as an official source. Nevertheless, the Ministry intends to take some steps directed at explaining the impossibility of running any commercial activities in the Nagorno Karabakh ruled by separatist regime, Tagizade underlined.

Touching upon the opening of an air communication between Azerbaijan and Northern Cyprus, official of the Ministry said that initiatives by private companies have nothing to do with the state policy of Azerbaijan. The companies target the establishment of direct commercial contacts, and organization of Azerbaijani citizens’ trips to Northern Cyprus.

“The population of the Northern Cyprus suffers from economic isolation. Azerbaijan hopes that the Turkish community of Cyprus, which supported UN Secretary General Cofi Annan’s plans will benefit equal treatment by the European states. Azerbaijan is ready to render equal aid to the Turkish and Creek communities of Cyprus, he stressed. As to the activities of the Azerbaijani companies, he called on ceasing the politicization of commercial initiatives by private companies, which does not contradict the international rule of law.”

Tagizade also refuted reports on the recognition of passports of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus by Azerbaijan and stated that it was wrong information.

Regarding the visit of a group of Azerbaijani MPs to Northern Cyprus Tagizade said that the legislative authorities are independent from the executive authorities.
