“Ago” group met a group of human rights defenders

Council of Europe Committee of Ministers “Ago” group met a group of human rights defenders in the building of Council of Europe representation in Baku yesterday.
Lelyla Yunus, Saida Gojamanli and Eldar Zeynalov attended the meeting.

APA was informed by head of Peace and Democracy Institute Lelyla Yunus that, the meting brought together representatives from Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands and Romania and the main theme was the pre-election situation in Azerbaijan.

L.Yunus said that they informed the representatives that there are still political prisoners in the country, and the composition of the election commissions has not been changed: “This shows that, they want to commit fraud in the elections again. It must be mentioned that, those who committed fraud in the previous elections have not been punished so far. The police still interfere in the elections and no policeman has been punished for this. They have beaten people so far, one person died as the result of 16 October 2003 events, one person lost his eye. Alim Kazimli died as the result of beating by the police but no one has been punished yet”.

The human rights defender stated that the group members promised to take measures in this direction and that “Ago” is going to be more active till the election.
