07 May 2005 [17:48] - TODAY.AZ
A joint mission of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), United Population Fund (UNFPA), United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Food Programme (WFP) will visit Azerbaijan on 9-14 May 2005.
Three bureaus of the Executive Boards of UNDP/UNFA, UNICEF and WFP selected
Azerbaijan for the joint visit of its members to check on how effectively these UN agencies cooperate in Azerbaijan in contributing to the country's development.

Azerbaijan is the fourth country in the world and the first country in Europe and CIS selected for the visit of the Executive Board members following Vietnam, Mozambique and Guatemala. This recently introduced practice aims to improve coordination of the UN system's support to the achievement of the country's priorities and the Millennium Development Goals. The joint visit underscores the focus of the mission on the functioning and effectiveness of the United Nations system as a whole.

During their visit to Azerbaijan, it is planned for the members of the Executive Boards to meet with high-ranking government officials, pay field visits to UN and also to meet other partners such as the representatives of multilateral institutions, bilateral donors and civil society.

The mission will share the results of its visit with local media at a wrap-up press conference on the last day of the visit, 14 May 2005.
