Changes to be injected to Azeri elections code in May

03 May 2005 [14:21] - TODAY.AZ
"No changes will be injected in the elections legislation in May. MP Fazail Agamali, the chairman of Ana Vatan Party, told Trend.
The changes to be injected in the Elections Code are linked with observation in the elections process.

Agamali said that the restrictions put on the observation of elections by the non- government organizations (NGOs) might be lifted. "It is planned to improve observation institutions to hold democratic and transparent elections. Besides, some imitations set in the legislations can be also removed. For instance, it could be possible to change a principle allowing an elector to vote for only one candidate, while the amount of deposits can be diminished.

MP rules out possible changes into the rules on formation of elections commissions. There is no need for formation of the elections commissions in a different way, he underlined.

The Azerbaijani government and Venice Commission continue talks and discussion on the improvement of the elections legislation.
