Anthonious W.de Vries: "Azerbaijan has almost fulfilled obligations taken in front of Council of Europe"

Yesterday special representative of Committee of Europe to Azerbaijan Anthonious W.de Vries has held press conference dedicated to the report on Azerbaijan.
He declared that, gaining independence of Azerbaijan, establishing democratic society, organizing market economy gives chance to cooperation with European Union (EU).

DeWries reminded that, in the first years of independence EU thought only to aid food to Azerbaijan, but at present, within the frame of neighbourhood policy proposal, it is interested in cooperation in all fields.

He stated that, in operating of Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil-pipeline in May, great success awaits Azerbaijan. According to his opinion, profit gained from oil should be directed to non -oil sector's development of the country: "The both sides will take profit from the integration of Azerbaijan to Europe, Azerbaijan will propose its productions to European countries, and European companies will be interested in bringing their productions to Azerbaijan". "Much depends on forthcoming parliamentary elections" saying the European diplomat considers that, the same condition should be provided for all the parties to hold pre-election campaign: "In this regard tele -debate is of great importance. If the elections held in the level of democratic standards, interest of Europe will increase more".

As for the report, AntoniousW informed that, it is stated in the document that, Azerbaijan has almost fulfilled obligations taken in front of Council of Europe, but elections are not in necessary standard level and court system has not been developed. He also stated   about the opening of representation of European Committee.
