A soldier of the Azerbaijani army was wounded as a result of violation of the ceasefire by Armenian armed forces, Azerbaijani Defense Ministry said on July 3.

A conscript from Azerbaijan's Lachin region, soldier Elsevar Mammadov, born 1996, was wounded as a result of the ceasefire violation. The soldier has been hospitalized and his condition is satisfactory.

The armed forces of Armenia broke the ceasefire on the contact line of Azerbaijani and Armenian armies in numerous positions 19 times last night.

The Azerbaijani positions took fire from the positions located near the villages of Horadiz, Garakhanbeyli, Ashagi Seyidahmadli, Ashagi Veyselli of Fizuli region, Yusifjanli, Shikhlar of Aghdam, Kuropatkino of Khojavend, Mehdili of Jabrayil, Chayli of Terter, Tapgaragoyunlu of Goranboy region and at the nameless heights.

The opposing side was silenced with return fire.

The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan.

As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts.

The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the U.S. are currently holding peace negotiations.

Armenia has not yet implemented the U.N. Security Council's four resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions.
