Azerbaijani parliament affirms creation of Azerbaijan-Russia Joint Demarcation Commission

A statute creating the "Azerbaijan-Russia Joint Commission on Demarcation" was approved during an extraordinary session of Milli Majlis (parliament) of Azerbaijan on Friday.

The chairman of International and Interparliamentary Relations Committee of Azerbaijani Parliament Samad Seyidov, who presented the document, said that the statute was signed on May 15, 2013.

The commission was created for the purpose of carrying out the demarcation of state border in accordance with the contract on borders of both countries, signed on September 3, 2010.

It organizes the implementation of aerophotography, geodesy and cartography works and controls their implementation, as well as organizes the implementation of the works related to the demarcation between Azerbaijan and Russia from the starting point to the last point.

The statute defines the border signs and their places between Azerbaijan and Russia, and defines the rules for the usage of Azerbaijani geographical names in Russian and Russian geographical names in Azerbaijani.
