Azerbaijan to introduce advices on sustainable progress to UN General Assembly

The Office of the UN Resident Coordinator, the UN Department of Public Information in cooperation with the International Migration Organization held a presentation for journalists on Thursday at the chief UN office in Baku on sustainable development after 2015, including human trafficking and the problems arising upon their resolution, as well as the work carried out by UN agencies in the field.

The UN conducts consultations with various sectors of society in different places, the head of the Azerbaijani representation of the Public Information Department of the United Nations Envera Salimovich said.
"There is a long-term plan for development and the implementation of the United Nations Millennium Development Goals. The purpose of this event is also the achievement of set objectives and a review of how to achieve them. Such activities will be conducted in the future, and the views of journalists will be taken into account," Salimovich said.

In Azerbaijan, development after 2015 will be consistent with the concept of 'Azerbaijan 2020: A Look into the Future', an expert on major development issues after 2015, the UN adviser on coordination Irada Akhmedova said, adding that the UN office in Baku will support Azerbaijan in this matter.
According to her, discussions will be held in July-August amongst members of the international community, and in September, each country will submit its recommendations on sustainable development to the UN General Assembly.

The discussions also touched upon the issues of migration and human trafficking.

The acting head of the UN Office in Azerbaijan Serhan Aktoprak noted that three percent of the world's population (214 million people) are foreign migrants. Migration in Europe has reached 70 million people, in Asia - 61 million and in North America - 50 million.

According to him, given the internal and external migration, every seventh person in the world is a migrant. Cash transfers by migrants have reached $ 400 billion.
