“There are geographical names that represent much more than just a dot on the map. The names of the villages and towns that have become symbol of cruelty and brutality - Babi Yar, Lidice, Oradour, Khatyn, Songmi. In the early 90s of the last century, this list included another name - the Azerbaijani town of Khojaly”- said an Israeli politician and member of the board of the International Association “Israel – Azerbaijan” (AZIZ) Arie Gut, in an interview to AzerTAc during photo exhibition dedicated to the 21st anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy. The photo exhibition organized by the Association AZIZ supported by Heydar Aliyev Foundation in the campaign “Justice for Khojaly”, was held at the Museum of the Diaspora, Tel Aviv University.
According to the Israeli political scientist, Khojaly genocide committed with incredible brutality was one of the worst tragedies of XX century. Such bloodshed has no analogue in history. “Cruel and merciless scenes of this tragedy will forever remain in the hearts of Azerbaijani people. On one night it was largely destroyed one of the oldest settlements of Azerbaijan - Khojaly. This tragedy is a crime against humanity. This is the historical fact that the Armenian armed forces and gunmen spared none of the Khojaly residents, who had not managed to leave the city and its surroundings. As a result of the atrocities of the Armenian armed forces, 613 people were killed, 487 people have been crippled, 1275 innocent people - the elderly, children and women who were captured were subjected to unprecedented torture, abuse and humiliation,” Gut underlined.
According to Gut, the world should know that it is a crime directed not only against the Azerbaijani people, but against the humanity. “Right now, people in high posts in Armenia - Seyran Ohanyan, Serj Sargsyan and Robert Kocharyan and others, as the perpetrators of the incident of genocide must be brought before the international court. Crime should not go unpunished. The world community should condemn the Armenian military-political aggression. International organizations, parliaments of the world should give international political and legal assessment of the Khojaly genocide committed by Armenia in Azerbaijan, as a true genocide”, the Israeli politician emphasized.
