Azerbaijani legislation is being adapted in accordance with the requirements of the European Convention on Cybercrime, chairman of the Public Association "Azerbaijani legal reform center", member of the Bar Anar Baghirov told media today.
He said that Azerbaijan joined the Convention in 2009. Significant reforms have been conducted since then to combat cybercrime.
Lawyers play an important role in this issue. New points were added to the Criminal Code. Work is underway in this area.
"The relevance of the fight against cybercrime has been recently increased not only in Azerbaijan, but also around the world," he said. "The number of Internet users is increasing every year. The number of cyber threats is being increased. According to recent data, more than 500 million people are victims of threats worldwide each year. Taking this into account, one of the main objectives is to raise professionalism of forensic science and law enforcement employees."
The University of Information Technologies may make a significant contribution to resolve this issue. Counter cybercrime issues were specified in "Azerbaijan-2020" concept.
