Spokesman for Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has praised the results of a summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), saying it marked important issues for the country.

Elman Abdullayev said the final document adopted at the 12th OIC Summit in Cairo featured “clauses which reflect national interests of Azerbaijan”.

“In the final document, the heads of state and government called on the international community to recognize a massacre committed by the Armenian forces in an Azerbaijani town of Khojaly as an act of genocide.”

Abdullayev said 57 states, which were members of the Organization, recognized the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan.

The spokesman said Azeri FM Elmar Mammadyarov addressed the summit to give an insight into Azerbaijan`s position on political events taking place in Palestine, Syria and Mali.

Abdullayev noted: “The OIC member states welcomed the Azerbaijani President`s proposal to organize a conference on prevention of international terrorism in Baku on March 18-19.”

“During the Summit, Pakistani Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khar proposed that considering Azerbaijan`s growing international prestige and influence, the country should be included in the OIC contact group on Jammu and Kashmir.”
