“Azerbaijan is an important country for Uruguay and we intend to deepen our relationship,” Diego Cánepa, special envoy, ProSecretary of the Office of the President of Uruguay said at a meeting with speaker of Azerbaijan`s parliament Ogtay Asadov.
Cánepa appreciated his meeting with President Ilham Aliyev.
The Uruguayan official praised Azerbaijan`s dynamic development. He pointed out the role of Azerbaijan in realization of global energy projects, saying this proves the country`s increasing international prestige. “Uruguay is interested in development of cooperation with Azerbaijan in all spheres.”
Asadov said Cánepa`s visit to Azerbaijan would give impetus to strengthening relationship between the two countries. The speaker said there were good opportunities for Azerbaijan-Uruguay cooperation in political, economic and humanitarian spheres.
Asadov noted Azerbaijan attaches great importance to development of relations with all countries, including Uruguay. He added this month marks 18th anniversary of establishment of diplomatic ties between Azerbaijan and Uruguay. “Friendly relations were established between the two countries over these years. Parliaments have great role in expansion of these ties, as well.”
Asadov also briefed the Uruguayan official on global energy and transport projects initiated by Azerbaijan, as well as ongoing economic reforms in the country.
Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, the speaker described it as an obstacle to progress of the entire region. He also spoke of Azerbaijan`s stance on the problem, saying “we regard that the conflict must be settled on the basis of territorial integrity of our country”.
Cánepa said his country`s position on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict remains unchanged. “Uruguay considers that the conflict must be settled peacefully and on the basis of principles of international law.”/AzerTAc/
