The Honorable Kathleen Hicks, Principal Deputy Undersecretary for Defense Policy, ended her visit to Baku, Azerbaijan, the U.S. Embassy in Azerbaijan said on Friday.
The purpose of this visit was to deepen the strategic partnership between the United States and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan's President Ilham Aliyev and Dr. Hicks discussed the bilateral security relationship, including counterterrorism cooperation, advancement of energy security, and future initiatives involving cargo air and maritime transit operations.
Dr. Hicks expressed her deep gratitude to Azerbaijan for their strong support for ongoing U.S. and Coalition operations in Afghanistan, and both affirmed their commitment to the country leading up to and following transition in 2014.
Defense, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Minister of National Security to discuss initiatives that will further strengthen US-Azerbaijan cooperation. Dr. Hicks also toured the new state-of-the-art cargo transit operations and facilities at the Heydar Aliyev International Airport."
