Newly appointed U.S. Ambassador to Azerbaijan Richard Morningstar held his first official reception.
Reception began with a minute of silence in memory of 4 employees of the U.S. Embassy, killed in Benghazi. Ambassador Morningstar thanked Azerbaijan and other countries for their support in this matter.
He noted that the ties between the U.S. and Azerbaijan are strong and multilateral. Ambassador said that the Azerbaijani-American cooperation is covering mainly the areas of security, energy, internal reforms.
According to him, the United States and Azerbaijan should continue cooperation in security not only in the region but also in other parts of the world. Morningstar praised the role of Azerbaijan in the UN Security Council.
Morningstar stressed, that all sides are interested in resolving the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
According to him, the US-Azerbaijan cooperation in the energy sector contributes to the stability of the region.
The Ambassador noted that U.S. will continue to support the strengthening of the energy sector of Azerbaijan.
The event was attended by officials of the Azerbaijani government, MPs, diplomats accredited in Azerbaijan, representatives of religious denominations and political parties.
