US embassy comments on ban on weapons sale to Azerbaijan

The United States has a very strong security relationship with Azerbaijan as a very strong security partner and in a very security partnership with Azerbaijan, U.S. Charge d'Affaires in Azerbaijan Adam Sterling told reporters on Tuesday.

Commenting on reports about ban on sale to Azerbaijan of weapons he said: "When companies want to sell defense articles outside the U.S. they get license for the sale from the State Department of the U.S. This case involved a single application from a company which wants to sale a defense article to a number of countries and under the list of countries there was Azerbaijan and that private company amended its license and removed Azerbaijan from the application."

Sterling didn't specify the name of the company.

"The United States has a very strong security relationship with Azerbaijan as a very strong security partner and in a very security partnership with Azerbaijan. We provide assistance to Azerbaijan," Sterling stressed.
