EU ready to help solve Karabakh conflict

30 June 2012 [16:43] - TODAY.AZ
“We are concerned at the slow progress in the negotiations between Armenia and Azerbaijan to resolve the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict,” President of the European Union Herman Van Rompuy said in an interview to Armenpress.

Rompuy said the EU is concerned over recent violence along the Line of Contact. He said military force will not resolve the conflict. Only a peaceful settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is possible.

The EU has reinvigorated its support to the work of the OSCE Minsk group. The responsibility to reach an agreement is essentially in the hands of Armenia and Azerbaijan,

“The European Union has repeatedly expressed readiness to contribute to confidence building measures, where it can help the work of the OSCE Minsk Group,” he said.

On the question concerning a recent resolution the European Parliament adopted, expressing the wish to have unconditional access to Nagorno-Karabakh, Rompuy said this does not constitute any form of recognition of Nagorno-Karabakh. He once more said EU does not recognize so-called “Nagorno-Karabakh” republic.
