Malaysia backs Azerbaijan's fair position

Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov on Thursday met with Malaysian Minister in the Prime Minister`s Department in charge of parliamentary affairs Mohamed Nazri bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz.

Speaker of the Azerbaijan`s Parliament noted that Malaysia was a significant country for Azerbaijan. “We are interested in development of the relations with Malaysia. For this occasion, we consider that intensive reciprocal visits are very important”, he added.

Ogtay Asadov also said that yet there is no legal ground for close cooperation between the two countries. “Now, 14 documents are being prepared to the effect. We consider that signing these documents will be new level on development of the relations”, he said.

Mr. Asadov also underlined that there were favourable opportunities for deepening of the cooperation between both countries in the economic sphere.

Asadov highlighted the role of the parliaments on development of the intergovernmental cooperation. He also praised activity of inter-parliamentary friendship group of both countries and added that holding the meetings between the two countries` MPs and discussing issues of mutual interest would serve further deepening of the relations.

The Speaker also hailed Malaysian support on Azerbaijan`s election as the non-permanent member of the UN Security Council and also noted that relations of both countries were in high level within the OIC Parliamentary Union.

Touching upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, Ogtay Asadov noted that Azerbaijan supports the conflict`s resolution in the frame of norms of international law.

The Speaker praised the recognition of the Khojaly genocide by Congress of Mexico, Senates of Pakistan and Columbia, some States of the US and expressed hope that Malaysian Parliament would implement works in the relevant direction.

Mohamed Nazri bin Tan Sri Abdul Aziz, in his turn, noted that Malaysia were interested in further deepening of the relations.

He also praised development of the inter-parliamentary relations, stressing confidence that expanding of the cooperation would positively impact on the economic, cultural, humanitarian spheres.

The Malaysian Minister also said that Malaysia would support Azerbaijan`s just position on the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
