Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov received the Romanian Presidential Adviser on strategic issues, security and foreign policy, Iulian Chifu, the Foreign Ministry told Trend on Thursday.
The meeting discussed the current state of relations between the two countries, opportunities for cooperation and regional processes, as well as energy projects.
Chifu, noting the geopolitical importance of Azerbaijan, appreciated the country's peacekeeping efforts in Afghanistan and its role in the region as a transit country.
Romanian guest also stressed the importance of the Final Declaration, signed at the 20th summit of the Black Sea Economic Cooperation Organisation.
Mammadyarov noted that the foreign policy pursued by Azerbaijan in the region, is based on national interests of the country.
The meeting also discussed ways of developing bilateral relations between the two countries.
