PACE’s autumn session to eye report on Azerbaijan

Co-rapporteur of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) Monitoring Committee Joseph Debono Grech arrived in Azerbaijan.

He told APA that the Monitoring Committee’s report on fulfillment of Azerbaijan’s commitments before the Council of Europe will be prepared till the end of June.

The co-rapporteur said that the report would be submitted to the PACE’s autumn session.

Grech declined to comment on the tensions and human losses in the contact line between the Azerbaijani and Armenian troops. His colleague Pedro Agramunt will also come to Azerbaijan and the co-rappoteurs will start meetings tomorrow.

The visit, which will be ended on June 14, aims to evaluate the fulfillment of commitments undertaken by Azerbaijan before the Council of Europe on justice, tolerance, local and regional democracies. The co-rapporteurs will meet with the leaders of political parties represented in the parliament, justice minister, prosecutor general, chairman of the Supreme Court, representatives of the religious communities and local authorities of Guba region.

The co-rapporteurs visited Azerbaijan for the last time on January 31 – February 2.
