An article by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary, Permanent Representative of Azerbaijan to the UN Geneva Office and other International Organizations Murad Najafbeyli, "Shusha. Temple of art of Azerbaijan" was published in the 'UN Special' magazine. The magazine is considered one of the most popular publications in Switzerland and is published monthly by 10,000 copies.

The author noted the cultural diversity of the territory of Azerbaijan, which reflects the rich historical and cultural heritage of the people, the Azerbaijani Mission to the Geneva office of the UN and other international organizations told Trend on Friday.

The article provides information about the history and monuments of the city of Shusha, which in the middle of XVIII century became the center of Karabakh khanate of Azerbaijan.

The article also notes that Shusha plays an important economic, political and cultural role in the life of the Azerbaijani people, reflects the national and moral values, and musical traditions of the country. The article mentions the names of great writers, poets, and composers such as Gasim bey Zakir, Mir Mohsun Navvab, Khurshidbanu Natavan, Najaf bey Vezirov, Yusif Vazir Chemenzeminli, Firudin bey Kocharli, Uzeir Hajibeyli, who are of Shusha origin.

Further, the article gives details of the great representatives of the musical art of Azerbaijan - Jabbar Garyagdi oglu, Khan Shushinski, Bulbul, Uzeyir Hajibeyli and notes that Shusha was the "Conservatory of the Caucasus" in the XIX century.

The article also notes that in the 70s and 80s of the XX century mausoleum of Molla Panah Vagif was built, monuments in honor of Mir Mohsun Navvab and Uzeyir Hajibeyli erected, and emphasizes that, given the crucial role of Shusha in the history and culture of the country, its legacy continues to be the focus of the Government and people of Azerbaijan.
