'Clinton's visit is of great importance to ensure peace and stability in region'

07 June 2012 [13:14] - TODAY.AZ
U.S. Secretary of State Hilary Clinton stressed in Baku that the U.S. is committed to achieving a settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, deputy executive secretary of the ruling party Yeni Azerbaijan, MP Mubariz Gurbanli told Trend.

Gurbanli stressed that Clinton said there are conditions for the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict in 2012.

"Clinton's visit to South Caucasus and the negotiations conducted by her is of great importance to ensure peace and stability in the region" Gurbanli said.

Gurbanli added that the U.S. Secretary of State also noted the important role of Azerbaijan in ensuring energy security in the region.

Gurbanli believes that Clinton's visit is also important in terms of expanding the Azerbaijan-US relations.

"Azerbaijan is a member of the antiterrorist coalition and is involved in the fight against terrorism together with the United States. In addition, our economic and geopolitical interests are the same. Azerbaijan and the U.S. have joint projects in the region," he said.

The MP believes that the Azerbaijan-US relations are at a high level and will continue to remain so.

Clinton made a visit to Azerbaijan on June 6, during which she held talks with the President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev and met with representatives of civil society. The visit to Azerbaijan was held in the frame of U.S. Secretary's visit to the South Caucasus.
