06 June 2012 [10:08] - TODAY.AZ
The visit of U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to the South Caucasus countries will be very important for peace and security in the region. Azerbaijan attaches great importance to this visit because it is now the most important country of the East-West Corridor, North-South. Without the participation of Azerbaijan, it is impossible to carry out a project in the region. From this perspective, discussions and negotiations during the visit will strengthen the position of Azerbaijan, the deputy executive secretary of the ruling New Azerbaijan party, MP Mubariz Gurbanli told official website of the party on Tuesday.

He said that during Clinton's visits to Georgia and Armenia the sides exchanged views on U.S. relations with these countries.

"The next visit of U.S. Secretary of State will be paid to Azerbaijan. Bilateral relations between Azerbaijan and the U.S. reflect areas, among which energy security, regional cooperation, joint activity, corresponding to the interests of Azerbaijan and the United States from a geopolitical point of view, as well as U.S. economic interests in the region and other issues. There is a very serious cooperation in the energy sector between Azerbaijan and the United States. Azerbaijan is a very important country in the Caspian Sea basin. All this, of course, led to the fact that in policy in the South Caucasus, the United States pays particular attention to Azerbaijan. It should be noted that the most serious topic of discussion during Clinton's visit is an Armenian-Azerbaijani conflict over Nagorno-Karabakh. During the visit to Yerevan, Clinton held a discussion around this issue. In Baku, these discussions will be at the center of attention. Position of President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev in connection with the resolution of the conflict will be brought to the attention of Secretary of State of the U.S., which is a co-chair of OSCE Minsk Group, the leading country in the world," he said.
