'Calls to boycott Eurovision absurd'

First Deputy Chairman of the Azerbaijani Parliament Ziyafat Asgarov has called PACE rapporteur on Azerbaijan Christoph Strasser's proposal to boycott the Eurovision song contest in Baku because Azerbaijan allegedly violated human rights absurd.

"Strasser is an ordinary citizen. He is not Germany and German people, not the Council of Europe. His call to boycott the Eurovision contest in Baku is an absurd idea. Eurovision 2012 will be held at a very high level, let no one doubt," first deputy chairman of the Azerbaijani parliament Ziyafat Asgarov told reporters on Tuesday.

He said someone wants to organize a show in their own interest. "It is absolutely pointless idea, these intentions will not come true," he added.
