Azerbaijan, South Africa mull coop

Azerbaijani ambassador Elkhan Polukhov has joined discussions on South Africa`s foreign policy at country`s parliament. Minister of South Africa`s Department of Foreign Affairs Moshabane highlighted the country`s foreign policy priorities. The minister stressed the country`s role in Africa, and noted the importance of joint efforts to restore peace in Africa. According to the Minister, South Africa had been active in international and regional organizations.

Moshabane voiced South Africa`s official position regarding the ongoing global and regional events. The same day Polukhov met with head of the International Organization of South Africa, Centre for Research on Human Rights, Olive Shizana. The Azerbaijani diplomat informed Shizana about the political and economic processes in Azerbaijan.

He touched upon the activity of think tanks in Azerbaijan and their co-operation with European, American and Asian counterparts. Polukhov said Azerbaijani think-tanks were interested in establishing links with Center for Human Rights Studies.

Shizana said the Center was also interested in cooperating with Azerbaijan. They also discussed developments in the African continent and the South Caucasus, including the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
