16 April 2012 [13:32] - TODAY.AZ
A meeting of the Azerbaijan-US intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation will be held in Washington on April 18-20, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Elman Abdullayev told reporters on Monday.

He said at the meeting Azerbaijan will be represented by a delegation headed by Finance Minister Samir Sharifov, who is co-chairman of the intergovernmental commission from the Azerbaijani side.

From the U.S., the intergovernmental commission is headed by Under Secretary for
Economic Growth, Energy, and the Environment, Robert D. Hormats.
At the meeting the parties will discuss development and prospects of intergovernmental relations.

Azerbaijan imported goods worth $328 million from the United States in 2011, or 30 per cent more compared to 2010 (imports totaled $253 million).

The Azerbaijani government has defined agriculture, information and communication technologies, transport and tourism as the priority areas of the economy.

"U.S. companies can play a key role in the development of these sectors of the economy," Hormats said earlier.
