EU Commissioner Stefan Fule to visit Baku

Commissioner for Enlargment and European Neighbourhood Policy Stefan Fule  will visit Azerbaijan on Monday and Tuesday. He will use the increasing intensity of contacts between the representatives of the EU and Azerbaijan to advance further the bilateral cooperation within the framework of the European Neighbourhood Policy and its eastern dimension - Eastern Partnership, the EU mission in Baku reported.

During his meetings with the President Ilham Aliyev, Speaker of the Parliament Ogtay Asadov, Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov and other members of the government, he will underline the importance the EU is attaching to its relationship with Azerbaijan but also the need for the implementation of the Eastern Partnership goals, including in the area of democracy and human rights.

 Commissioner Fule will meet representatives of the opposition, civil society and also human rights activists. While in Baku he will also deliver a speech at the session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly which is a body composed of representatives of the European Parliament and parliamentarians from five countries of the Eastern Partnership. Euronest was created last year to support and promote the Eastern Partnership.
