'Opposition should present alternative projects to authorities'

30 March 2012 [12:18] - TODAY.AZ
The Azerbaijani opposition has no potential for dialogue with the authorities, deputy executive secretary of the ruling party New Azerbaijan Party (NAP), MP Siyavush Novruzov said in an interview with the official website of the NAP.

He said the opposition should present alternative projects to the authorities, play a mediating role in resolving a tension between state and society or inform authorities about public opinion on various issues.

"But our opposition has no connection neither with society public nor with people, they do not know the social atmosphere, do not have a clue about the processes taking place in Azerbaijan and the region, the country's economic development, they are not aware of everyday issues. Just abroad they make statements, and the opposition starts to say within the country that the opposition and the authorities are unable to engage in dialogue", said Novruzov.

He reminded that numerous joint discussions with the parties represented in parliament were held. In particular, the parliamentary parties and independent deputies participated in the discussions on the question of how exactly it is necessary to carry out propaganda work for the international recognition of the Khojaly genocide, in discussions of diaspora organizations.

"We invited everyone. But the opposition did not come. Because it is not interesting for them. On the other hand, if they come, they also have to say something. They are asked what you have done in this direction. What will they respond? Will they say that every day we send one letter to the authorities?" said the MP.

Some of the statements of opposition are published in foreign media. They do not contain a single fact about the Nagorno-Karabakh, an Armenian occupation of Azerbaijani lands, there is no mention about the Khojaly genocide, he said.

"But they are discussing the question of power in Azerbaijan. Since you are speaking in the international media, say something about global problems of Azerbaijan. But they do not do this, because these media are interested in putting pressure on Azerbaijan," said Novruzov.

He said the NAP has repeatedly stated its readiness for any discussions with the opposition.

"We have this potential. We have the facts on hand, the done work. But I do not know what they can produce," the MP said.
