Agenda of Russian FM’s Baku visit announced

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during his visit to Azerbaijan will meet with Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev, Prime Minister Artur Rasizade and also will hold a meeting with Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov, Russia 24 TV Channel quoted Russian Foreign Ministry spokesman Alexander Lukashevic as saying on Thursday.

Lukashevich said the minister's visit is timed to the 20th anniversary of establishing diplomatic relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.

"For 20 years a high level of cooperation aimed at strengthening relations in the spirit of good neighborliness and friendship between our peoples was achieved. We consider Azerbaijan as a strategic partner in the region," said Lukashevich. He noted the current visit of the Minister is considered as a continuation of the dialogue on strengthening relations between Azerbaijan and Russia.

Last year trade turnover between the countries exceeded $2.5 billion, and the potential of course is more, the spokesman for the Foreign Ministry said.

Form of cooperation between the two countries in the humanitarian sphere is interesting, Lukashevich said.

"During meetings with Foreign Minister Mammadyarov, the wide range of bilateral relations and regional issues will be discussed and the Nagorno-Karabakh problem will be intensively discussed," said Lukashevich.
