ANAMA, NATO sign agreement on mine clearance operations

Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) and NATO Maintenance and Supply Agency (NAMSA) signed an agreement on cooperation in Jeyranchol project, ANAMA reported. According to the agreement, NAMSA will finance 50% of the project, the other 50% will be financed by the Azerbaijani government.

The preparations for the project will start on March 26. About 45 employees and 1 mine-clearing vehicle will be involved in the operations.

The former Soviet Army’s biggest shooting range in the South Caucasus was based on the border with Georgia in Jeyranchol. Munitions and mines are found in the 64 million sq m area. A part of the territory is cleared by the order of the State Border Service. 19 million sq m area will be opened for clearance in Jeyranchol, 7 million sq m area is contaminated with mines, 12 million sq m area with munitions.
