OSCE Baku office to meet with political parties

14 March 2012 [15:37] - TODAY.AZ
The OSCE Baku Office has agreed with the leaders of political parties in Azerbaijan to hold regular meetings. Presumably, their topic will be the draft law, "On political parties," a source in the OSCE told Trend.

The date and the venue of the meeting is being specified. The current law was adopted in 1992. The new draft law envisages a number of major changes, in particular funding political parties from the state budget. In addition, it is necessary to collect at least 5,000 signatures to establish a party.

The draft law was discussed in the Council of Europe Venice Commission. The draft law "On political parties" in Azerbaijan will be submitted for discussion at the spring session of the parliament, the Parliament Apparatus head Safa Mirzoyev said earlier.
