'Demolition of buildings has no relation to Eurovision 2012 to be held in Baku'

20 February 2012 [17:44] - TODAY.AZ
Baku refutes some foreign media reports about demolition of buildings due to Eurovision Song Contest 2012.

"Not a single building or facility has been demolished, and no resettlement was carried out within the forthcoming Eurovision Song Contest 2012 in Baku," Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Social and Political Department Chief Ali Hasanov told Trend on Monday.

Demolition of buildings, which is underway in Baku, upgrading infrastructure, most projects on road construction, projects for laying gas, water communications are carried out in accordance with master plan of Baku, within the law, on the predetermined routes and paying compensation to people, whose facilities were located on these routes, Hasanov said.

"It has nothing to do with Eurovision Song Contest 2012 and beautification of the place where the contest will be held," he added.

"Those, who wish to do it, politicize this action. They want to put pressure on Azerbaijan, using Eurovision Song Contest 2012. Some circles want to put pressure on Azerbaijani state's policy in the energy sector and in other spheres, use their ambitions as a mean of pressure. We unequivocally condemn this. We will hold the European song contest at the appropriate level, and it has nothing to do with beautification of Baku and other projects," Hasanov said.
