‘Azerbaijan gathered great political capital in int’l arena’

“Azerbaijan election`s to the UN Security Council is not accidental. Only Azerbaijan, as one of countries established after the collapse of the Soviet Union, has proved that it is not a weak country, which hinges on geopolitical processes,” Russian politician Sergey Markedonov said in his interview to website “Echo of Caucasus”.

The Russian politician underlined that Azerbaijan, pursuing balanced policy, established positive relations with the European Union, Russia, the US, Iran, Israel and Philistine.

“On one hand, Azerbaijan participates in the Eastern Partnership programme realized by West, on the other hand gives opportunity to Russia to play an active role in the solution of the Armenia- Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict. Russia delimitates its border without any problem only with Azerbaijan.”

Sergey Markedonov noted the EU builds good relationship with Azerbaijan to stop its energy security and dependence on Russian energy stressing the high-level of cooperation between Azerbaijan and US.

“Thus, Azerbaijan having rich natural resources and geopolitical position between the Caucasus and the Middle Asia gathered great political capital in the international arena. Successful diplomatic steps by official Baku ensure its victory in the foreign policy. It comes clear why Azerbaijan has become a non-permanent member of UN Security Council.”

“Azerbaijan`s economy develops, military budget grows, army strengths. But Azerbaijan tries to solve Nagorno Karabakh conflict with the way of negotiation or other peaceful steps. Azerbaijan`s membership to UN Security Council will increase its world political authority and will give great opportunities to the international union to draw attention to the country`s problem,” he added.
