Leaders of Azerbaijan’s several political parties consider some party’s desire to become the opposition leader as unreasonable.
"It could be someone's desire, one can consider itself as the best. However, after the elections, the status of the leading opposition party rightfully belongs to the party that occupied the second place,” Citizen and Development Party Chairman Ali Aliyev said.
He said no party received the status of the opposition leader in the 2010-parliamentary elections. Given the recent media reports, some just try to present themselves as the opposition leader.
Liberty Party Chairman Ahmed Oruj also expressed his attitude to this issue. He said based on the world practice, party gaining the most votes in the elections after the ruling party gets the status of the opposition leader. However, it’s very difficult to define the opposition leader in Azerbaijan.
Azerbaijan Democratic Party Chairman Sardar Jalaloglu said the opposition leader is just a term in Azerbaijan and there is no sense in the struggle of parties for this title. The opposition leader it is just a political term that is used inside the parliament.
